The ac in my 87 xj 4.0 made my jeep squeal all the time whether it was on or not. So rather than removing it, i just un plugged it, and it no longer squeal, i didnt need to buy a new belt.

Yep you will need the bypass pulley...
You can get one from a pull-a-part from a non a/c 4.0ltr and perhaps your dealer could get you one.
Part #s (this is from a 91-93 Mopar parts manual, so double check with your dealer first, should be the same part but the #s may have superceeded.)
Mount: 5300 6551
Pulley: 5300 2903
Bushing: 3300 2201

You will also need the bolt to hold the pulley on and the mount to the engine, but the Mopar parts manual does not give specific parts #s for them.

www.Napaonline.com
Could not find one for a 98 but did for 93.
BK 6601819 $34.99

www.oreillyauto.com
Again, not one for 98 but was one for 93.
Item # 34171 $44.99

I searched www.autozone.com as well, they too did not show one available for 98 but did for 93. When I click on the item for the 93 it gave me an error that it wasnt available.

i'd wait until the belt showed up before getting more parts. You could always just use some string to see how long of a belt you need by removing the ac. Then just order a belt that long

Take a look at your belt routing. You will see it is impossible to have everything to turn in the right direction without the dummy pulley. There is no way to get around the alternator and back up.
