okay so whats the best way to go for some super soft shocks? my friend kevn has had a zj with 2.5OME lift and hated the OME shocks, then had a XJ with 4.5lift and had RE monotubes and said it rode smoother... are monotubes really smoother than OMEs????

They may be a bit softer but I would go with OME's either way. They are excellent shocks.

Right. I've been through alot of different brands of shocks and stopped at OME. Been running them on the TJ and now the XJ. Very smooth.

They may not be the softest but they are the best IMO for all conditions.

so whats the softest shock i can get? softer than RE monotubes and OMEs? I know there are downsides of this such as handling and such but i dont care, who makes the hands down softest shock?

That's really hard to say because not everyone has experienced every shock out there so we can't really state which is the softest. I was at 4wd hardware last week and they have a display of different shocks in the showroom. I think it was rancho adjustable, pro-comp adjustable, full traction, blistein, old man emu, skyjacker, and black diamond. Being me, i played with them and ome was the easiest shock to compress, easier than the adjustables at setting 1. But of course that's not ALL the shocks out there so i can't say it's the softest.

Stock shocks?

Pro Comp, Rough Country, Rancho(basic), Sky Jacker Hydro, Rusty's and a few others are all the very same shock(not even inside changes), Cheap and soft. Me if I wanted a cheap shock I'd probably run Rough Country or Sky Jacker but remember there only going to last about a year. Now if you want a soft shock that has some life to it get a SkyJacker Nitro there soft and seem to hold up.

Hands down the best shock I've ever ran were Bilsteins and when I get my next Jeep(a XJ) it will be riding on Bilsteins all the way, but that's at a price of $100 per shock..

If you want a good shock that is not blown out and is pretty soft and cheap then look into Monroes. They are available everywhere and you will need the shock specs that your lift requires then go to your AZ or O'Rs and crossmatch what you need.

You think the skyjacker nitros are soft? I had those on my tj for 3 days and then swapped em out for the skyjacker hydros cuz they were too stiff. The hydros are alot softer IMO.

The Nitro's are soft after you run them a bit, I had them on my YJ and thought they were way softer than my Hydro's, but at the same time there is a fine line between "soft" and "controlled" and I was doing alot of high speed fire roads at the time when I had the Nitro's on it... Now on the slow craw trails I loved the Hydro's..

I get what you mean. With the nitros on my tj, the rear would bounce real hard and that got annoying after just a few days. After i put the hydros on, the bounce was soft, almost like stock. That's what i liked. I guess it's all based on preference, rig setup, and terrain.

Thats exactly it, preference is the name of the game. What one person finds great will often not be the case for another person get something and see how it works for you.
