smoke and no oil

Alright so cleaned it up and it looked like the adapter. So i pulled the bolt and sure enough the gasket was broken in like 4 places. so im not going to replace the sending unit it looks new. there was only 1 thing connected to the adapter the connector for the sending unit. but it looks like there is supposed to be something els connected as well?

So thanks to all your guys help, no more leaks!
put the gasket and adapter back on. also put the flexplate on. started it up and no leaks. 1 problem down now on tot he next! Thanks again
