I hooked the fuel line to the canister, but it seems like the cap I pulled off was made into it. So I'm not sure that's a good thing haha, however it hasn't caused any adverse effects thus far. Can anyone verify there should be a line running here and if so if the canister is capped still, and just capping the line off as a result.

On the canister the cap has two lines.. One to the air filter box, the other to the intake manifold. The third one (unhooked in your picture) goes to the fuel tank. I don't think the 'cap part' is supposed to come off the canister.

So should I just cap both lines? Seems pointless to have a hose run to a capped end, but oh well. I also pulled the line off while the jeep was running and there is no vacuum on that port.

I saw somewhere there is a code for the evap solenoid. Maybe it only sucks it out when it's in the mood/controlled by the solenoid/PCM.

no.. when you said you pulled the cap off, i thought you pulled the 'lid' off the canister.. Apparently someone has tried to disable the evap system. I don't know why anyone would, but.. Anyway, here's some diagrams.

I don't understand people sometimes, but on a good note I haven't smelled any gas since I did this. Thanks for the help again and the diagram.

I had the same problem on my 88, it was a leaking injector. I took me a while to catch it because gasoline evaporates so quickly. I just put new O rings on all of them and that seemed to fix it.

this info helps mee too,i have the same problem intermittently.heard if you completely fill your tank that some raw fuel can migrate to the canister and give off a fuel odor but dont know how true that is.

Might not hurt to replace the filter in that canister as well.

Overfilling can definately cause problems on many cars, not just Jeeps.. Nissans are notorious for that.
