WJ Control Arms Showed up today! We're getting there, piece by piece.

The plan is to pull my wifes DD XJ off the road around winter and start a small build on it. 3"-3.5" lift with 33"s under it.

What I have so far.

- Bastard pack in the rear using two sets of OEM XJ packs for 3.5" of lift.
- JK shocks
- Discos
- Tow hooks up front until I find a decent priced front hitch
- 2 inch spacers pictured but I wont use them until later down the road.

Still need.
- 3" or 3.5" springs up front.
- Hitch in the rear.

The first step is to gather all necessary lift components and lift it safely.

Are those JK shocks long enough? I don't really know the length but i always though stock shocks were short.

I havent measured but I have been told that they are long enough for 3"-4" lift and 5" if you use BPE's. I can measure this weekend though to be sure. I only paid $30 for them and they have less than 5k on them. They are Tenico's or something I believe. If they arent then I will figure something else out.

That's sweet. In case you didn't know and you need some, Full Traction has TALL bpe's. I run them front and rear for extra length out of these old man emu shocks.

I'm not sure of the bolt size it uses. I ditched the bolt it came with and drilled it out to accept a larger bolt. They sent me a rear set for the front and the holes didn't line up so i had to angle it and redrill some new holes.
$21 a pair from 4wd hardware.

Well instead of waiting on a used set of coils go pick up a set of Ford F150 front coils from a mid 80s truck. Should be tall enough and if they fall a little short then you already have the spacers if needed.

As a side note, I highly recommend upper rear BPE's when you are changing the rear shocks. This way you only have to risk breaking those bolts once.

I thought about that but I dont want to lose the flex and I figured I would do what I want the first time around.

I actually bought the spacers for that purpose and then decided that I didnt want to do that. I can wait, its not a big deal. We have three kids so money comes slowly for extra things anyways.

I thought the same thing but was worried it would legthen the shocks to much. Ill have to do some measuring and of course see how bad removing the stockers is.

Thanks for all the tips.

My wife picks up her new car Monday morning so the XJ will be mine. It will pull DD duty for awhile until my WJ is back on the road though. Which still gives me time to gather the rest of the parts.
