Why, on earth would you want to remove EFI????? Most people want to go the other way!! I don't even know why it would be done, let alone how?? Are you having ECU problems? I would STRONGLY recommend keeping EFI!!! This is of course my opinion, and is by no means meant to offend. It is your Jeep and you may do with it what you like. I just have never heard of someone wanting to take EFI off of a Jeep. Best of luck to you!! Please explain the problems you are experiencing with your EFI system.

Yeah I don't think I would swap to a carb at all..Ohter performance options would be a bored throttle body and maybe some new 4 hole injectors..

I'm going to echo the sentiment here... Why???

I don't know the emissions laws in AZ, but would making the heep less enviro-friendly even be allowed there?

Less fuel economy, higher emission numbers, worse off-road performance, no less complicated and no real benefits, this is what you want to do????

Well........................... I have been through 4 ECU's. Replaced other componants and went through the wiring and have no idea whats causing it to burn up. Right now its sitting in the drive way and i really dont want to dump any more money into it if i have to. I figured i could throw on a carb, run power to the coil and fuel pump and BAM.... be driving down the street in no time. Not worried about power of performance, i just want to drive it to work cause my diesel truck is a little expensive. So how about it. Is it possible to swap it and what would be involved. If its not possible then i guess shes up for sale.

Thought Jon Kelley had solved the ECU problem for you. I think that the swap would be pretty expensive because the timing is also controlled by the ECU and the distributor is of the type that has no built in advance mechanism. The actual carb is the easy part. It is the timing and the ignition which poses the problems.

Don't forget getting the fuel delivery ratio correct. You would need to match the flow rate and pressure to the particular carbs needs...

You can circumvent that by using a Weber which can be used on everything from a 4cyl VW to a 350 Chevy V8. It is infinetly tuneable. I have one in my shop I would send him if he gets to the point of figuring out the ignition and advance mechanisms.
Let us know how you are going to get the ignition figured out greatwhite!

I've heard of a HEI distributor in a yj 4.0/4.2 that would fit in an xj and hook up with 1 wire. To switch to a carb would require an old 4.2 intake and any carter bbd 2bbl carb. All small block v8 mopars used them in the late 70's and they were also on 4.2 jeeps but go old enough to be before feedback systems (pre 1980). As far as emissions are concerned, in Indiana there is a cut-off based on age/miles and those vehicles are exempt but you should check local laws. Be a shame to spend some cash and end up without a useable ride. Good luck!
