Default Slipping Gearbox

Hi, I am a fairly new Jeep Cherokee owner. I have a 1992 Cherokee 4.0 2 wd... I rally like this car, only ! have 124 000 miles on it and "was owned by a little old lady". Recently the gearbox have started to slip in and out of gear... when stopping at red-light it goes into neutral and when reved up it jumps back in again... sometimes with a big klunk from the rear !
Please advise that do do and what to check for. Really would appreciate the forums help ! Cheers and thank you in advance, Henrik

First, check the fluid level and condition. Follow the instructions on the dipstick. Ad no other fluid that dex/Merc. Do NOT use the Chrysler fluid!

Next, perform this simple adjustment.

(Cruiser54 is referring to the automatic transmission fluid or ATF. Just a FYI before you add Dex to the engine oil...)
