Reformed Non-Jeep Owner Returns Home
Hi, Folks!
After close to a year of openly pining for a 2nd car, I'm happy to have recently purchased a 2001 Cherokee Sport in a very scuffed & faded shade of Patriot Blue! It has virtually zero options, upgrades or maintenance and actually shrugged away from human contact when I picked it up from the no-kill shelter dealership. Nonetheless, we've bonded and I now look forward to many years of happy Jeep ownership (right after I straighten out all the previous owner's neglect).
This isn't my first Jeep...bought a brand-new Wrangler in 2006 but sold it in 2009 when the Mrs. and I decided to downsize to one car and have regretted letting that TJ go every day since. We've been sharing a wonderful little VW MKV R32, but the time has come that a 2nd car is more than a luxury. I picked up the XJ hoping to outright own a reasonably reliable car for what would be the down-payment on anything brand new.
A little about me: Studied engineering but wandered into project management, so owning a fixer-upper like this is a nice way to keep in touch with my inner gear head. I'm competent with tools but don't have any real in-depth automotive repair experience. By the looks of the coolant consumption on this XJ, it looks like I'll start getting some real soon...
Anyways, thanks for reading! I look forward to getting to know you and taking advantage of all the great knowledge that I've seen while lurking on this board, this is clearly a great resource for fellow Jeep lovers.
Cheers,
-Mark
