slip yoke problem...
After much head scratching and eliminating possible causes I have I think found my odd noise/vibration....Where my slip yoke for the rear shaft mates to the transfer case on the splined shaft there is an amount of play not much but enough...My question is, is this normal? and if not can you tell me if this is a common problem.. The jeep has covered 120k miles also would I assume that both male and female are worn or is it normally one end that goes...I am hoping its the female as its the easiest to change. any guidance would be much appreciated.....

Are talking about the u-joints? if so there should not be any play that is independant from one side to the other, you will see if there is. The rearend will have some play but not alot. If one of the u-joints is bad it will cause vibration.

some days there just arent many members looking
the spline will have a small amount of ply the more lift your have the more play
sounds like the mount may need to be replaced you shouldn't be able to move it easy with your hands

John, without actually seeing it, there is much difficulty in making a statement about it. Try a new slip yoke from a driveshaft shop. If that reduces or eliminates the slop then you have found your answer. If not then it is time for a new output shaft fron your transfercase.

slip yoke problem
Guys thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. I think I am going to replace the gearbox mount before I do anything else as all seems to be ok...but the gearbox mount moves without any effort at least 20mm in any direction...Hope you did`nt mind the jokes I was only playing........Once again many thanks...John
