Default size of allen key needed to rotate oil filter

When changing oil today my old oil filter took about 4 hours to pull off. Turns out it was not parallel with vehicle but at a downward angle so it was pinched against block making it next to impossible to remove. After some inspection I noticed piece that attaches to cast block that oil filter screws on too has a hug allen hole in it, and looks like if it was loosened it could be rotated to sit parallel and not pinch against block. I have some huge allen wrenches and none were big enough. Anyone know of the size?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Thats called the oil filter adapter.. if it not sitting parallel the rollpin inside may have been broken off. You need to remove and check it to be sure. Then is the time to replace the orings..

There were three types of tool needed over the years, Hex head in the earlier rigs, then allen head and finally a T60 torx.

Double check yours, make sure it's not a Torx. My 94 is..

it's a 9/16 allen, you will probably need to cut it down to fit it between the frame rail and the head of the bolt.

Good article, but if I read it correctly it said nothing about rolled pin, it is pretty obvious where it goes and can I get parts from mopar?

Not certain about mopar. I got my o rings from Auto Zone. That was all I needed. Mine was leaking from my wrenching on the oil filter at my first oil change. You might want to grab one from a JY and utilize the replacement mount.

please bear with me, I am a noob, is it a replacement mount (whole assembly, the one oil filter screws on to) your are talking about?

Yes , My oil filter adapter was leaking at the point that it mounts to the engine block. I repaired it with O rings from Auto Zone which you will need for certain if you disturb your oil filter adapter. I am still unclear how yours could be bent or otherwise out of alignment to where your oil filter does not fit properly. But if it is bent, and not the incorrect size filter, then my recommendation is to score a junkyard replacement.

it doesn't appear to be bent, just rotated, the engine was replaced like 1000 miles ago, maybe it was assembled wrong, I am assuming it is not bent, bent will probably go to junkyard and get a jy or whatever. The oil filter should be the correct size, its what the parts stores recommend for it, and its a mopar piece, even if it was wrong size it doesn't seem like that would explain the angle.
