OK so, Since i am serving a liscence suspension, I thought, why not take the time to pull stuff apart and fix stuff. so, my front speakers don't work. I figured id pull the door panels off and pull out the speaker. the speaker and wires seem fine and fuses are all good. so then i pull the radio. screw with the wiring harness for a bit. still doesn't work. so I decide ill wait till my dad gets home so he could give a pointer at some stuff since I am very novice when it comes to electrical... decide ill take it outa the garage and whats this? wont start? when i turn the key to the on position, my guages go up, the radio turns on, everything works. when i push the key to start it, nothing at all. I must have screwed sumthing up? any ideas? help would be greatly appreciated. This is on my 99 not the 96 btw if that helps any. I think ill stick with suspension and drive-train after this

Check the fuses in the PDC under the hood. I think it's a 20 amp, one of the big ones. There labelled but I can't remember what they are.

Check for continuity on the wires that run through the door. My front speakers didn't work when I bought the xj. I got some cheap speakers from walmart and still no sound. I found that the wires the run through the door boot were broken. Replace and all was well. Now I just need to upgrade to some better speakers to match my new sony HU.

Check the plugs that come out of the steering column. You may have dislodged one a bit. Do the gauges stay on in start position, or it all shuts off?

Yea, I think battery connection/battery. It works until you ask for "the big juice". Check/ clean the terminals.

i agree with flinstone id be checking the battery and connections. specially if its been sitting for awhile. as for the speakers i would just run new wires to the harness from the doors. even if it isnt broken it needs to be fixed anything stock is not good enuff!

Thanks guys. I new it wasn't the battery because I have brand new terminals and battery. I checked fuses and crap and all was good that when I came to here for a word of advice. but while I was at work I figured it out in my head. my neutral safety switch is kinda messed up. So when I got home, I moved the shifter back and forth then put it in park and pushed it another 1/4 farther than it's supposed too and it started right up!! kinda funny
