Shock question.

Ok so i have a 89 XJ that my uncle built, He gave it to me when he passed away =/ But im only 17 and dont know much, So im sorry if i have tons of stupid questions lol.But anyway how can i tell what kinda shocks i have on my jeep, and the one shock that sits sideways thats connected to the stearing because i think its shot? I have a couple of pics you can see in my albums.

then just says made in USA. Do you think it could just be a regular shock?
But i think its shot because i took it off to sand and paint it, but you can push the shaft all the way in and it stays, then u have to pull it back out, and i dont think its suposed to be that, shouldent it push back out?...

yes that is the way they work. when pressure is forced on them the valves in the shock create resistance causing the dampening effect
