I've never once been shocked stepping out of a vehicle, at least not enough to notice. But the OP is saying a huge shock, idc how long you rub your fuzzy socks on the carpet, your not gonna produce a huge shock

When I get zapped, my wife can usually hear the crack from the other side of the vehicle.

This happens to me all the time with my dad's WJ with cloth seats, but never in my XJ with leather seats.

I just slap the door frame with my hand instead of gingerly touching it before closing the door, you tend to notice it less that way. I carry a lot of static electricity for some reason and I am constantly getting shocked.

Is this why every now and then you see a vehicle with a strip of rubber that drags on the ground. Bout an inch wide just long enough to touch the ground?

That's common on battery powered forklifts in warehouses. I've never seen it used on a car though.
