Default Serpentine Trick?

92, XJ, wanting to replace serpentine belt.
I have loosened the 5 bolts on the power steering and screwed out the adjuster screw at the bottom of the power steering unit.
But belt does not release.
What am I missing?
Thanks.

As soon as it's loose enough, slide it out from under the idler pulley to the left (while standing in front of the Jeep) of the PS and you should be good to go.

The two bolts in the rear, the pivoting bolt, and the securing bolt for the tensioning bolt should be loosened. This allows the tensioning, long bolt to be unscrewed. That should allow one to swing the whole assembly. The pictures in the linked post are very helpful/representative.

You don't have to remove any bolts to loosen the belt and you certainly don't have to touch the power steering pump. Loosen the idler pulley, but do not remove it. It is a PITA to get back on. Right on the back of the idler pulley, is the tensioner, it has a long bolt going through it. Loosen that bolt and keep loosening it, it will take a while, but the belt will become loose. Usually it's easier to take off then put back on, so get it extra loose. Here is the link to a helpful picture
