Default Selec-trac question /problem

Hi all. We have a 2000 4.0 with selec-trac. The other day I noticed the front drive shaft turning as the jeep drove away in 2 HI.

Is this normal? It seems to me if you are in 2HI it shouldn't be turning.

I've tried various methods to disengage the 4wd system. I'm no stranger to 4X4s but this is my first jeep.

There are no 4wd lights on in the dash.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

It's the oil circulating &/or friction in the hubs. My old chevy 3/4ton part time 4x4 the front shaft tuned slowly in 2wd that was real part time 4x4 old school stuff locking hubs

It is normal for ALL Cherokees built after they did away with the vacuum disconnect front axle.

When you put the transfer case in 2WD, it disconnects the front driveshaft inside the transfer case so that no power transfers to it. It will still turn by the front wheels turning.

Not the case in a Jeep. No hubs.
