[QUOTE=Cherockee;1338721]Rolling main bearing is an unreliable method no matter how common pratice it looks to be. I wouldn't trust any shop/mechanic that would recommend doing this, especially given the OP's experience in this matter.

I agree with you about the condition of this motor, but I've rolled bearings in to more than 1 truck in my old fleet of tow trucks. VERY common practice and it works just fine. Research it before you poo-poo it.

With that low of compression this isn't going to be a simple sub-$100 kit to repair. The pistons are most certainly worn and the cylinder walls will need honed or possibly even bored.

I will however succum to the fact that you could throw a bunch of parts at this engine and it will keep running for another 20K miles, more of less. But if you want to drive this for anothe 100K take it out and rebuild/replace it.
I've done lots of my own engines with just rings and bearings, even a few that really shouldn't have been done that way due to excessive cylinder wear.
But the 4.0 block doesn't wear bad, so theres no reason to not do it if the skirts aren't cracked or broken on the pistons. Yes it can live another 100k maybe more.

Rolling in bearings has been done since the first engines that had bearings.
There is nothing wrong with that. Your bearing has that little tit for alignment, so always start the smooth edge of the bearing in first and roll it in.
Then use a screw driver and mallet with soft taps to get the bearing in the last bit where its flush and the notch/tit is in the notch for it.
