Default rusty rockers

Hi I was wondering what the best way to fix my rockers on my 96 xj...I just bought it about 4 months ago and I knew it was a little rusted underneath when I bought it but it was a good price...I'll put pics up sometime tomm evening to give you an idea of what I'm talking about...I dont know if I just weld new panels in or place some kind of panel over whats existing?..any suggestions would be appreciated

cut whats left of your rockers out and weld in a piece of 2''x3''....built in sliders!

Yeah rockers are prone to rusting on the Cherokees. I fixed mine last year using fiberglass. Make sure you cut out as much of the rust as possible and patch form there. you can also buy replacement panels if you have access to a welder. However fiberglass is going to be a lot cheaper. I painted mine with rocker gaurd wich leaves a nice textured look so if the repair is not perfect you wont' see it anyways. Its held up good so far. I'm planning on makign rockergaurds integrated into the rocker panel out of some square tubing. Unfortunately I can't take credit for the idea but here is the website with the how to's on it. It's a great idea that will surely last longer then the stock rockers. Hell they will prolly be the last thing left.

Enjoy!

ive got the same issue, got a good price on the jeep running etc but both rockers are rusted out completely.

Im cutting them out completely to fit in 1/4" steel plates across the opening and make solid rockers that I will never have to worry about denting etc.

x2 for the steel rocker sliders ? /\
