Default running issues

I just replaced my fuel pump and filter. I drained the tank cause it had been sitting for 2 year or so. I know the plugs need to be replaced but its running ruff and the header is getting cherry red. I'm not sure if its not burning all the fuel and its burning in the header. I can start it up and it will idle for a lil bit then cut off, if I get it gas sometimes it will let it idle up fine or it will spit and pop. What do y'all think it could be? Help me out please

Plugs are bad, huh? Replace them along with distributor cap, rotor and wires. Then see what happens. Bad tune-up hardware can be causing all of your problems.

Check to see if your converter is plugged up some causeing the exhaust gases to build up in header. You also should clean your fuel line's out,and the injector's.But you should do the tune up first and clean line's and injector's then see how it run's.You need to do more than just a simple tune up on any veichle that has been sitting. Then if the header is still running hot check the converter and exhaust for beinging plugged up. good luck

Good advice above. Replace all tuneup hardware and get a vacuum gauge on there to see if you have a restricted exhaust (cat). Easy to do; search for the "how-to".

Well both of these things only take a minute to change so they are easy checks. Not sure what they cost new but you could grab one of each at the salvage yard. But mainly I just came to your thread because your screen name caught my eye. Must have mis-read it.

Could be. You need to do some work on your end as everyone has suggested. If you're looking for a "cure-all" or "silver bullet" cure, there isn't one. Many different things could cause your Jeep to run the way it does, not just one. You need to start doing the basics as already stated: Check for vacuum leaks, tune-up parts, visual inspections. You will not fix your Jeep by remote control with a keyboard and monitor.

Could either one of these have something to do with it?

Absolutely. Start fixing that kind of stuff as you see it. Those would be vacuum leaks.

Keep in mind that ther might not be ONE cause of your running problems, but multiple causes. Tune-up hardware and all vacuum hoses/pipes need to be in good condition first. Spend more time under the hood and less time on the computer for a while. You'll get it done.

I think both those could be a problem but especially the bottom one if it's from where I think. Had to right click the pic threads to view them.

Ok, I did see a few more that wouldn't hurt to change and would a bad thermostat cause water to run back out the radiator ( with the cap on it pushes water out around it )
