rubber oil pan gasket trouble please help

im putting a rubber gasket on my oil pan and it wants to slip and slide every where i was wondering if anyone had any tricks to keep this from happening

I bet that you are trying to use silicone on it? When you use a rubber gasket you don't use silicone or your gasket will keep slipping. On the oil pan the only place that you want to use silicone is at the front and the rear seals.

no i did not use silicone i found summin on another post though. it says to dental floss every other hole to hold it in place and then when you put half the bolts in cut the dental floss. some one is a genius.

I have done that before with thread. But I used it on every hole because I have had them move with every other. Yes it dose take a little longer but the gasket won't move. Just get them all started and cut the thread just before you snug them down.

ok i did it and it works perfect i only have to do the 4 corners and in the middle and it made life alot easier.

Yes, good stuff! Where do you get yours? I used to have some, I think it came from Summit, but I need to get some more.

Best trick I learned is to put dots of RTV on corners and you can actually tie fishing string through the holes to hold it in place

Use some rubber bands to hold it down.

why not spray adheasive
