I trying to search from the old posting but couldn't find.


My Cherokee RPM straight away swing to 1500RPM after turning the ignition key on. What could be the issue here? I just changed the TPS and I did not realised when the problem started. Anyone can help?

Hi Eric,
It would really help if we knew more about your Cherokee, like the year and engine.
When you replaced the TPS did you adjust it for proper reading? A high idle like that is often caused by vacuum leaks. Check all the vacuum hoses and connections and check your intake manifold bolts for tightness. When I first got my XJ, the intake manifold bolts at the head were loose and I had a real high idle too.

I had the same issue and it turned out to be a vacuum leak.... The rubber fitting on a vacuum line that connects to the intake manifold had deteriorated and fell off. That's where I would start!

 

1500 rpm is almost assuredly a vacuum leak......time to start the search.

Did you have this symptom before you changed your TPS?
