When I accelerate my RPM's go up to about 2,000 which is where it should be for regular highway accelerating. But as soon as it hits 2,000, it drops down to about 1,100 and stays that low even if I accelerate. I need to floor it so it shifts for me to accelerate. I know that's not normal.. anyone idea what's going on?

Look at your throttle body. There's a cable that goes from the throttle lever to the transmission. It has a little D-shaped button on the 'self-adjuster' which is mounted on the manifold. With engine OFF, Push that button and slide the little 'nipple' where the cable comes out in towards the adjuster. Once it's all the way in, release the button, and move your throttle to wide open position.(again, engine is OFF for this adjustment) You'll hear the adjuster 'ratchet' or click-click as the cable is pulled out. That's it! Test drive to see if shifting has improved. Hope that helps

Well, the symptoms you described could be one indication. "When I accelerate my RPM's go up to about 2,000 which is where it should be for regular highway accelerating. But as soon as it hits 2,000, it drops down to about 1,100 and stays that low even if I accelerate."
Does your Jeep have overdrive? If so, that seems pretty normal. It would shift into overdrive around or above 50mph.
"I need to floor it so it shifts for me to accelerate."
That is what led me to believe your TV cable may need adjustment. If i'm in overdrive, I don't need to 'floor it' for it to downshift into 3rd. Probably about 3/4 pedal or so, but well before wide open throttle.
If you don't feel comfortable adjusting it, then don't. If not adjusted correctly, it can cause too early, or too late shifts, and can result in damage to the transmission. But.. it is a really easy adjustment. You almost can't do it wrong as it's a 'self adjusting' type thing.
Maybe you could try a fluid/filter change? Look at the tranny dipstick.. the fluid should be a light red, not burnt smelling and of course at the correct level. Check when hot, on a level surface, idling in park or neutral (it'll say on the stick) Post what you find out

I adjusted it easy enough.. just waiting to test drive it. thanks for the info. I'll let you know how it drives now. I'll be sure to check my tranny fluid too.

Yes I adjusted the tv cable it’s a 1998 jeep Cherokee sport in-line 6 it’s only once I get up to like 45 i gas it and once it gets to like 60 the rpm drop at like 1700 and if I step on the gas the rpms don’t go up or do anything I have to really step on it and it goes to 3000rpm
