97 trans overdrive issue
recently reset the cpu and got a new, not oem, iac, noticed it going in overdrive in gear selection 3
so in D and 3 make no difference,
ill be going 60 at 1900 rpm and it drops to 1000 makes a err sound then shoots back to 1900 and accels again over and over at any speed past 50
it feels like its going into a 5th gear and then down shifts back to od.
if it was slipping wouldn't the rpms shoot up like it was in neutral?
also its shifting a bit hard when down shifting to 1st -slowing down-
the trans has always made the foorboard real hot, i have no carpet
it has a stock cooler, i may get a temp gun to show how hot
i dont know whats electrical or where the cpu is on the trans

1. What transmission fluid are you using? Dexron III/Mercon?
2. Check your Transmission fluid. Does the fluid level appear to be at or near the MAX line when the fluid is up to operating temp. Smell the fluid on the dipstick - does it smell burnt. Let it drip on to a white paper towel or rag - does it look black.

What would be the best trans fluid to run in these Ken? Something I noticed about mine is that it acts like the pressure trans in my Dodge Ram. After it shifts into overdrive and increases a bit in speed it applies even more pressure to the clutches and feels almost like it is going into another gear. Are these a pressure trans like the Ram and supposed to behave like this? Using my Ram as an example it feels right but I was not sure
Should have mentioned my Ram is a Cummins 3500 with the 47 trans.

i use the autozone brand called dex/merc,
i change the pan fluid every three or 2 months sence a year ago to flush it , the fluid wasnt to dirty though, i havent changed the filter because it has a cooler line on the side of the pan, and i couldnt find info on how to disconnect it, feels like its gonna break
im changing the iac and cks today to see if it helps

dex/merc is Dexron III/Mercon - good.
Why are you changing the IAC and CKS? Neither one will cure a transmission problem.
It sounds like your transmission is slipping or you have a solenoid issue.

i had read the iac will make it shift wrong , also will the cpu affect it ?
At first i thought it was fixed then i drove it today. a while into the trip it started again but it only dropped 200 rpm then back up intermediately , the fluid looks new
im gonna look for a 97 trans so i know it will fit they go for 0nly 150

Wherever you read this they are wrong. The TCM will affect it, not the CPU....whatever you are calling a "CPU".

A 200 RPM drop is normal for going into OD. Dropping out is not normal. It could be something a simple as a defective brake lamp switch (which is not limited to putting the brake lights on) or a defective solenoid, defective TCM inputs, or a defective solenoid.
Don't jump on a replacement transmission.

It looks like you'll do whatever you want so why are you bothering to post your issues on this forum?

i asked if it could be electrical and you made it sound like no , and you didnt tell me anything to check or how to
i also asked about what is controlled by electronics on the trans
i did have my brake lights stuck on recently i reached under and pulled the plunger out and its working
it is allready well into 4th when it happens , it doesn't down shift, actually i think the downshifting while in od isnt working.
ill have to try again if i can find a hill,
When it does it im holding a steady throttle at 60 mph the rpm drops some, the motor lugs a bit, momentum slows to 58 for a few seconds , but there is still some momentum, its like your driveing a stickshift in to high of a gear
