I have a 2000 xj with 82k--not my daily driver. It's been doing the same thing-rough idle after temp reached 210. I havn't tried to fix/replace anything yet. I might have to wait a few weeks to let some $$ get back into the bank. I just had a shop replace my valve cover gasket and replace a/c compressor and air dryer, belt and tensioner, and I also put a little over 1k in my wife's car this past month too. What is recommended to replace first?

A tune up, plugs wire cap rotor.. Then crank sensor. Then more sensors then fuel injectors. Is the check engine light on?

Yep start with a tune up. You can buy kits online or from 4wheel parts that come with everything you need for a very reasonable price.

With 82k miles it has probably never been done.

changed the plugs. Runs good with the exception of- when you turn it off after you've been driving it normally, start it up 5 or 10 minutes later and it idles rough. Then when you start driving it's fine. Maybe time for an injector upgrade?

Find a local shop that carries BG products. Buy a can of 44K. Pour it's contents into a full tank of gas. Run it down to below 1/4 tank. You will be pleased with the results.

Very common problem. The heat soak causes the fuel in the #3 injector to turn into a vapor. I've heard of a heat shield that you can buy that helps.

thanks. I will try both suggestions. I will post results. I will try the 44k first, the heat shield might have to wait until next weekend.
