For peace of mind, I’d just toss on a Clearwater 0331 and be done with it. No more lying awake at night wondering if it’s cracked (Like me for instance). Would suck to replace the head gasket and confirm the head is okay, reassemble and drive it for a month or two and realize the factory 0331 just **** the bed.

btw... (disclaimer- NOT fanning any flames)... but my T6 change before I moved cross country still seems to be holding up well w/o it causing massive leak issues.
If it's cost effective in my new town I may continue running it. If not, maybe one more change and back to the "normal" stuff.
Like we've all said here before, how often you change fluids in your vehicle is far more important then exactly what type you put in it.

My oil pressure was all over the place with regular pennzoil 5w30. I don't mind that easy flow on start up when I am up in the mountains. It has been pinning to 80 randomly on colder start ups for the first 1-2 minutes, so I have to let it warm up more with regular oil.

I just recently moved from CO to even higher elevation in AZ. And no issues on full synthetic up here... but are you sure you don't having something else going on that causing that?

Wow really? That's odd. Been running yellow bottle Penn 5w30 in mine since I got it. Oil pressure has been consistent for me.

Isn't there a mechanism in the oil pump operation that is supposed to kick in if the oil pressure hits 75psi? If I'm not crazy, it seems logical that a gauge hitting 80 would be a problem (assuming that the ACTUAL pressure is being represented and it's not a sending unit issue.)

Jeep oil pressure gauges are best read as High Pressure, Moderate Pressure, Low Pursue, and Aw Crap. Don't put too much stock in the exact number

Most oil pumps have a bypass valve on them that prevents them from overpressuring the system. Otherwise they might explode the oil filter of there was a clog somewhere past the filter.
As a teen we would shim the pressure relief valve on old pumps to make them "high performance" oil pumps lol. It didn't really do anything for the system at all, but kids think they actually know something at that age

Yeah if I juiced it past "80" or "high" it'd clearly open the release valve or something. It's only when it was 10F and below. Oh well, I got hit by a car yesterday so its toast anyway! I figured it was the oil pump dying.

Replaced the head gasket. Had the motor inspected by a reputable shop whose seen their fair share of cracked 0331 heads and my motor passed a rigorous inspection with positive results. That being said, no more leak and runs like a champ. I'd agree with you in just installing a new Clearwater head while there, but was told by top men....TOP. MEN. that there is no need and they would definitely tell me if it was recommended based on their inspection.
Sorry to jack this thread. Lets get back to the T6.

i mean, if they were top men they would know that the 0331 head can crack at any moment without warning. Sure it passed tests. Thats great. Just saying that that doesnt mean your in the clear going forward. You may be and hopefully are good for a long time. But still be on the lookout for symptoms.
