Where does it leave this thread? Same exact place it started. Everyone has their own opinions on oils and that will never change. I completely agree with what Bugout said though. No matter what oil goes in your Jeep, it will do just fine. Just keep on changing it.
However, when we are talking about 1000hp engines in race cars, the oil makes a difference. I went to an oil class put on by Amsoil and learned a ton. I would be willing to throw any oil in my Jeeps and not think twice about it. But when it comes to the Bug, I did my research and settled on Lucas. And I have a lot of reasons why I chose it but none of those reasons would help the Jeep live longer. The Jeeps oil will never see the pressures and heat that the Bug does and thats where the Lucas comes in handy.

Getting ready to change my XJ over to T6 as soon as it's warm enough outside to feel my fingers. lol.
I haven't seen the 5W 30 you mentioned....but I'm going with a 5W 40 T6 which is pretty damn close to that. Relatively inexpensive too. Think it was like 35 for 6 qts. and a quality filter. Which is right in line with most other oil options.

**scratching head**.... I thought it was the reverse that caused issues... meaning that once you go full synthetic and the seals soak up all that extra goodness, that if you went back to a straight conventional oil, that's where the leaks started??..... I mean, I could be wrong, it's happened before... once.... I think it was a Tuesday....... lmao.

Same goes for transmission fluid leaks. It may have STARTED leaking when you poured fresh fluid in it, but the cause of the leak was the old *** seals that you've needed to replace for a long time.

I've never heard of that happening... sounds fishy to me. Really kinda sounds like some excuse someone "theorized" because they started running an oil with a detergent package that cleaned out the "plugs" in their engine seals which ACTUALLY made it start leaking lol.

but they only have the 2.5 gal jug though—that's almost 1.5 changes for me…$55+ tax for the 2.5 gal, that's $5.50/qt at wally world. Not bad at all.

I, too was told that tale that changing oils would ruin your seals. I'd tend to agree with Basslicks, though, if it actually caused the damage rather than expose maintenance sins, you'd think there'd be more of a to-do from a consumer level than there is.
I mean, extra zinc doesn't dissolve anaerobic rtv does it?

"No loss of coolant"? So how do you know the head gasket is bad? On an 00 or 01 especially, if you have the head off to change out a head gasket, you need to take the head to a machine shop and have it x-rayed. Don't take what you can or can't see for face value. The water jackets could be cracked inside the head where you can't see them, or you could have a crack that's too small for you to see without special equipment.
