I went today looking for some Rotella. I figured I'd do the 4 quart Rotella 1 quart Marvel and a Wix filter combination.

My problem is... what kind of Rotella? I saw all types but the 10w30 says diesel oil on it. Is there a specific type of Rotella? I want the gunk outta my 98.

Does this really work?
How many miles to the change?

You want t5 or t6. Both of which are marketed as "diesel" oil.

 

Rotella T Triple 15w-40 and Wix 51515 is what I used for the first couple of oil changes to clean up my engine when I first got the xj. I would skip the marvel I don't think it wise to try to clean up a really gunked up motor to fast. If it is really bad just change oil more frequently.

 

Gunk... this jeep sat up north on a hunting camp for banging thru the woods to pick up deer. It had acorns in everything. Yeah. Gunk.

Yes it does. The MMO is fine to add, it isn't all that aggressive. It cleans, but it takes time.

Your normal OCI's are fine, maybe shorten them to 2000 miles if the oil's really blackened up.

 

Just put in Rotella 10w30 and a Napa Gold filter. Got a tad more oil pressure and I feel like it's running smoother than before but I also feel like there's just a bit more noise when the engine is cold. So far though I am happy with the results.

 

5 quarts of Rotella T3 and one quart of MMO. Monitor the sludge removal through the oil filler cap.

 

Don't make it complicated. Any of the Rotellas with a good filter (Wix) and you'll be fine.

Since you are in Detroit, pay attention to your weather. If you are still expecting some cold stuff, choose your weight accordingly.
