Default rolled my jeep

im sadden to say that i rolled my xj while offroading and the body is a total write off....
Ive been reading for 2 days now on engine, tranny, tc swaps and im so confused as well as worried (ill explain)

Heres my situation.....my 93 had only 69,000km when it rolled ( 4.0 ho 4x4, auto, np231, 5.5 RE lift, SYE, 8 1/4 rear) so id like to reuse all i can off this xj.
I found a dream xj as a replacement body(2000 4.0 auto, np242,4x4, 313.000km) from florida with no rust(i live in Ottawa, Canada) so its a rare find up here. It runs and all but id like to use my engine tranny and transfer case on it if possible due to the millage. i also have a 1990 ax15 tranny with new clutch,,,,
Can someone clarify for me what combination of parts i can use on the 2000 model and mods needed to accomplish a swap. Heres what i got to work with......

1993xj(rolled)(69,000km)- engine, auto tranny, 231tc(with SYE), rear and front axles(new bearings, brakes and seals),
1990xj- manual tranny with new clutch
2000xj- full truck im going to buy(extreme leaking valve cover,tc hard to get out of 4x4(truck stays in 4x4), dreaded 0331 head.
1997xj(motor trans and tc working)(225,000km)

Any help would be appreciated as this is my dd. I know id be fine driving the 2000 for now after doing a valve cover gasket and tinkering with the tc linkage but im scared of the 0331 head plus it would be a waste not using all that extremely good stuff off the 93.

from what ive read, i can use my 93 np231 with SYE on the 2000 automatic, but what about this shaft lenght im reading about?

Thanks in advance guys for any help you can provide..
i will post pics soon

Go to your local salvage yard, slip the counter guy some money, and ask him to look that stuff up in his exchage manual.

I'm gonna toss out a few things for people to correct. I think you need to keep that PCM matched to that year, (2000). That would mean a bracket to mount the "coil pack" business, doable I guess. Now it get's a little more sticky. You will need the sensors for the 2000, but the 2000 manifolds will not go on the 93 without a custom adapter plate. The 2000 might need those manifolds, with the exhaust setup and the 02 sensors. (at least). So that might be a problem.

I haven't dealt with any of that, just been reading the forum.

As far as the rest all I can say is maybe the speed sensor from a 2000 AW4 could go on an earlier Jeep.

Look down inside of the oil filler of that 0331 and see if you can find a "tupy" foundry mark. That would be the "good" 0331.

Pretty sure if you put the 0331 on the 93 block it will fly OK.

Well....you need to cut down on flying, but you get my drift!

engine swaps and mating used to be straight forward... Just use all the suspension components for now and pack the motor away for future reference... the 2000 shoild serve you well regardless of head issues, btw is that because of weak studs??

No, a flawed casting design. They crack right in the middle. No idea what % does that though. There are stats on at how many miles IF it cracks.

What's 313KM? 200K Miles? Anyway here is the thread on when 0331's fail> https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/how...9-01-xj-68400/

Out of 204 replies 11 reported it cracking beyond 150K. MILES! About 5.5%.

Thank you for all the replies....im going to switch everything suspension wise over to the 2000.(axles and all)
Does anyone know for sue if i can re-use my np231 with SYE on the 2000???(it currently has the 242)
Im reading stuff about short, med, long shafts...that might cause some install issues..
Where do i exactly look inside the oil filler cap to see if its cracked or if its a tupy(straight down-left or right)
Thanks...

If you have a sye already the original Shaft length is irelevant anyway. swap the t-case and drive shaft and you should be good to go

thanks for the reply...so thats good news to hear..
So its safe to say that i can use my rear diff and suspension, front diff and suspension/steering, 231 transfercase with SYE, drive shafts(front and rear).

Just one more question......how much work would it be to mate a 1990 ax15 to the mix while im in there...i know about the auto sensors throwing codes on the dash, but will something affect the performance or usage of this trany on a 2000?

thanks........

getting pics ready now
