Default Rocker Rot solution?

Hey guys. As I have said before, my rockers are shot. My question is, can I just use a plasma cutter, cut out all of the old rockers, spray the hell out of it with bedliner to prevent further rust, then buy some bolt-on rocker panel covers, bolt them to the body, and be done with it? I think fabricating and welding in sliders won't be necessary, as I won't be wheeling, I just want the rotting to stop. Is this an option? Anyone ever try it?

yes, you can just cut out the old and screw in some covers. there is a thread on here somewhere that someone did just this with some diamond plate rockers. looks good.
problem is tho, the rocker has to be covered and sealed properly so the rain and slush/salt doesn't get inside and rot out the pinch seam/floor board. that would be a tough fix.

you can buy replacement rockers for about 60 bux a side, but require welding. they are available in canada from cross canada auto parts.

Default What about filling?

Can I bolt in the rocker panel plates after bedlining everything, and then spray something inside to fill the gap to prevent the rust you speak of?

after you cut the offending rocker panel off, try to get as much of the loose rust off of the inner rocker as possible. then use a GOOD rust sealer. I recommend POR-15 it is specifically designed to paint over rust, and will help prevent the rust from spreading. unfortunately rust is like cancer. unless you cut it completely out, or grind it completely off it will eventually spread, even with the best rust preventative. as far as sealing the new rocker, i assume any sort of silicone based sealer would work, however, be sure to add drain holes- or drain plugs- because no matter how much you seal it water WILL find it's way in- and will get stuck there- and cause rust- unless you have proper drainage. Plus, i personally like to be able to spray the inside with a hose to rinse off any salt/mud/ or dirt.

Anyone have a link to a place that sells these types of rocker covers, diamond-plate or otherwise?
