Default Rim ?? again...

Ok I have asked this before and hope it wasn't here but didn't get a complete answer...Here's the situation...I need new rims the stock rims are shot to hell...I currently run 30x9.5 tires and plan to move to 31x10.5 once I put and RE 3.5 lift on... My question is this..should I go 15x7 or 15x8 on the rims..If 15x7 will run the 31x10.5 tires I'll go that route but if I need the 15x8 on the 10.5 will they be ok for the 9.50's till then? Hope I am providing the proper details..

if you plan on sticking to a 10.5" wide tire you would be fine with the 7" wheel.

anything wider than that and the 8" would be just fine with the 9.5" tire too.

just more of a chance of the tire slipping off the bead offroad.

Yeah I think this was covered before and the concensus was to get the 15x8s with 3.75-4" of backspacing.

Ok I thought so but my memory just isn't what it use to be and I couldn't find my darn post for some odd reason...oh well question answered...It's amazing how out of round my rims are and even balancing them does little to stop the damn bounce affect bad tims can give...lol At least the soft 8's are cheap..

15X8's would be fine on a 10.5 tire, I have wheeled with guys running 12.5 tires on a 15x7 wheel, not the best choice but works. Me on the other hand I love wide wheels for the stability factor, to I'm running 32x11.5's on 15x10 wheels, not the perfect choice, but gives a wider foot print and now when I move up to 33x12.5's I don't need wheels..

not entirely true. the width of the wheel has nothing to do with how much tire contact you have. while it does make your stance wider though. i would just go with some lesser backspaced wheels on a narrower wheel they will lessen the chance of having a tire slip off the bead.

in the offroad world 8" wheels are perfect for 12.5's

ktmracer419 what's your thought on how wide a rim for 9.50 or 10.50 tires? Do you think going with a 15x7 would be a better choice?

Regardless what others are saying, I've been running 7" wheels on my 33s for years and they are great. no weird wear patterns or anything! I can air down more than I could with a wider wheel. I addition the narrower wheel is less likely to get damaged from rocks hitting the rim. Also less likely to get a pinch flat as well. I do not have any stability issues at all! With the 12.5" tire and a 7" wheel, the wheel is tucked nicely inside the tire. So for use with a narrower tire I say 7" for sure!! Just my $.02, take it or leave it. Peace out!!

Yeah I am going with the 15x7 with either 4" or 4.25" backspacing..

On B/S go with as little as possible. It will cut down on rubbing issues and you will not have to trim as much for your tires to clear the fenders. Hope it helps!! Peace out!!

I run 15x7's, even with 12.5's. Never lost a bead, and i love the fat look.
