My 89 cherokee does something weird when I make right turns. It does not do it all the time though. Every once and a while when I make a right turn, the fuel gauge goes way past full, and the jeep kind of sputers and takes a bit to get going again. I thought it might have to do with the fuel being low, but I filled it and it still did it. Please help. It is the 4.0L in-line and it is EFI not Carb

Sounds like a bad or loose wire to the FP. Crawl under while idleing and wiggle the wires and see if you can duplicate it. Let us know what you find.

I would start with the basics. do a good clean up of your fuel system. start with the filter then maybe some additives to the gas. I am sure someone has a better Idea but that is what i got so far from what you have told me.

X2 on what blue said also.

Ok, sorry it took so long. I tok a look at the fuel lines and the wires to the pump and basicaly the entire fuel system and wiggled them to try and recreate the problem and it did nothing. It almost sems like it happens when my fuel gets low. It seems like the fuel gets pushed to the left of the tank and the fuel lines just suck in air. Has anybody ever had this problem? And, what is the best way to clean the fuel system and the engine?

Remove the tank clean it out. PIA

Hoses. not much you can do there. you could always buy some of that STP fuel cleaner and just add it to your tank. Ofcourse Change out your fuel filter. that should help out alot i rekon.

Obviously the tank will be easier to drop when empty but Stryker seems to be on the right track.
STP in the silver bottle is some good stuff. I put a bottle in mine once a month. I also change the fuel filter at everyother oil change too.
Get a little notebook to keep in the glove box or console that you can keep a record of every fluid change and if you have to use something out of the norm then you will be reminded to fix that problem ASAP.

I'll see what I can do. I will probably drop it and check all the hoses. From what i could see just under the vehicle, everything looked fine.

Maybe the foot on the fuel pump is loose???

Not picking up from the bottom of the tank?

Random, but it popped into my head... Might be affecting the fuel float..
