I just bought this 96 RHD XJ for my mail route. The build sheet says it came with code 'XEVS Tow Eye Brackets'. IT has a (one) "bracket" in the front and one in the rear. The front one is on the American drivers side (left side). I checked and it looks to be all the same frame support pieces as a standard tow hook, just the 'hook' part is a thick steel piece with a rectangular HOLE in it. There is a small cutout in the plastic valance on the one side.

No frame brackets at all on the Right side (American Passenger Side). Nothing.

Anybody have any experience with what the heck is going on here??

You have TOW eyes.. They are for dragging the rigs onto a flatbed tow truck or to secure a hold down chain. Not really intended for rescue work.
