reving up and down

reving up and down
I have a 1999 jeep cherokee, when im driving on the highway in a steady speed it will start to revving up and down. what could be causing it to do that?while its running it'll go from 300 down to 200 up and down..

I have a pretty good idea of what it is, BUT you should really try to give more info
Is it jumping like 500rpm?
to me it sounds like the lockup is acting up, but I cant be sure unless you give more detailed info.
