Diff Lockers
Hi
Looking a the recent post which is now closed about fitting a lunchbox locker I have some questions.
Being a newbie to 4X4 why do I need a locker?
Do you fit them to the front & rear or rear only?
What are the Pro's & Cons?
My XJ has Dana 30 and Dana 35 LSD at the moment and used as a daily driver.

My personal opinion is in the rear only. They help you get out of sticky situations. They make both wheels turn together instead of having the one with less grip spin freely.

For a daily driver I'd suggest a rear locker only. You have a LSD so a rear locker is not going to be a huge improvement for you. If you decide to fit one you'll need a new diff carrier anyway.
My '97 didn't have a LSD so my Aussie is a great addition.

As a new driver I suggest wheeling atleast a year with Open front and rear then put in a locker.
If you NEED a locker, you're doing it wrong. In stock form anyway. Stuff that you actually need a locker for you couldnt do in stock form anyway, everything else you can bump or use some other method to get over.

Hi
Thanks for the replies and I now understand what a locker is, I will not need one for what we do with our XJ.

Ebrake...
cheapest "locker" you can get.
I dont know how many times Ive used the ebrake trick to get me out of something.
If the rear wheels start spinning, pull the ebrake up about 3 clicks. most of the time, it will help a little and get both tires turning again.
