Trac-lok, axle gear oil, and transfer case oil?
Newbie here....
My son just picked up a 2000 XJ with 142k miles on it. Assuming the axle and transfer case fluids have never been changed so we're gonna do it. The tranny fluid looks nice and pink so guessing that's been changed not too long ago. Questions I have:
1. The service manual says to add a friction modifier if we have the Trac-lok equipped axle. How do I know if I have that option?
2. What gear oil is everyone using? I'm quite partial to Mobil1 synthetic products so I am thinking of going with the Mobil1 Synthetic LS 75W-140
3. What type of lubricant is everyone using in their transfer case? Not sure which one I have but I think it is the NV231 based on another thread I read.
Here is my vin number if anyone knows the codes - I'm guessing it will tell what transfer case and axle I have?

Thanks - Mike

the tcase uses dexronIII, so does the trans
Your gear oil should be fine
Jack up the rear axle, put it in neutral, and turn one of the rear tires. If they turn the same way you have a locker. If one turns the opposite direction, you have open diff.

When you say "locker", I'm guessing you are referring to the "Trac-loc"?
