retread tires
Hey everyone, been lurking for quite a while now, TONS of great info. gotta black 2000 xj that needs building up. ill post pictures when significant changes occur. have had the fenders trimmed for a while now and need to fill the holes, but has anyone heard any good/bad on retread tires? funds are a little tight and the site seems pretty legit and sort of like they know what theyre doing, and would be saving quite a bit of cash.

Wow does that pattern look like an MT/R or what???
These guys used to be Hi-Tech Retread. Do some searching and you will see their rep is about 50/50.... I only ever had one tire they did, and it was a spare so I never found out how it was on the truck.

So those are finally out? When i looked at them long ago, they looked almost identical to mtr's. I actually though they used goodyear's pictures but they now changed the tread a bit. The inner blocks are closer together. It should be a good tire though.

Well money is tight and I am desperate, but it hasn't gotten to the point that I will buy retreads yet. I think it is reassuring to know that they are out there but I am not quite to that point yet.

Theres a show on the history channel call "How It's Made" and they show how they retread tires and its pretty cool. I think its the same way they make tires. I would buy them if they had 35's.

And there was an episode of Dirty Jobs where Mike Rowe retreads a truck tire. Looks like a reliable process. I may get a set of these in a month or two, since the TrXus are shot and money is tight.

saw both of those shows and it seems like an awesome process, i dont thing i would use them for crawling because of the pressure on the tires but for street use.

There is a reason that the DOT will not allow retreads on the steering axles of big rigs (18 wheelers) Do you guys ever notice how many hiway gators there are (retread shards) on the interstates. Take a hint!!!

im not a fan of re-treads. i was gonna buy some until i heard the horror stories of them. id do it on a trail dedicated rig but tires falling apart at 60mph doesnt sound that appealing. im usually not an over the top cautious guy but for one, havent seen a re-tread mud tire i like and for two, had a friend with some and one fell apart at 40mph and it ended up sending him into a ditch. he was fine but his ranger wasnt. then again, have seen some normal tires do some strange things (pro-comp a.t on a tj, sidewall seperated from the tread..).
