im not a fan of re-treads. i was gonna buy some until i heard the horror stories of them. id do it on a trail dedicated rig but tires falling apart at 60mph doesnt sound that appealing. im usually not an over the top cautious guy but for one, havent seen a re-tread mud tire i like and for two, had a friend with some and one fell apart at 40mph and it ended up sending him into a ditch. he was fine but his ranger wasnt. then again, have seen some normal tires do some strange things (pro-comp a.t on a tj, sidewall seperated from the tread..).

Only way I think i'd use retreads was if it was a farm truck I used on the farm or something but not anything I towed a trailer with or did highway driving on.

yes but you also have to think of how many trucks are on the road. if they run retreads on all drive wheels and trailer wheels think how many that is on each truck( 16 ) retreads and think how many trucks you see on the road everyday. the percentage of retreads that come apart is very small. now i'm not saying it's not goin to happen but as some have already said it can happen with new tires also. sorry i will argue this, i work at a kenworth dealership and am around trucks all the time.
