My '99 XJ came to me with the rear cargo area carpet missing. I picked up one at the JY, but the just backing was dirty and rusty and the carpet was pretty dirty also. I scrubbed the crap out of the carpet and got it clean but it doesn't look all that great. I also peeled off the jute backing. My plan was to buy new jute, glue it on and put the carpet in but the more I look at it and the difficulty in finding a proper piece of jute, I'm thinking I might be better off just throwing a new piece of carpet in.

Looking at RockAuto, they have the ACC brand. Does anyone have any experience with this brand? I also checked Factory Interiors but they are a little more expensive.

Around here the JY Cherokee cargo areas become trash cans for parts so finding one in clean condition is an exercise in futility but I'm open to other ideas.

This is not a "wheeling" rig. I am doing a mostly factory "rebuild" with the goal of having a nice daily driver in my retirement years or a possible sale if other stars align in the near future.

 

I can't speak specifically to ACC, but a replacement rear won't come with the rear seat back or have the metal cargo rails. I've also experienced (and had a conversation on this forum, below) that the replacement carpet kits may not fit well between the left rear wheel well, the gas tank filler, and the rear corner.

Thanks. I read your other thread. That's a bummer on the fitment around the spare. I could probably live with it though. The seat back still has the carpet so I'm good there. And since the carpet is missing, I don't have the rails. I would just leave them off. I plan on installing a rubber cargo liner anyways.

 

keep your eyes peeled for a good carpet from wrecker. If you find the metal cargo slider rails, get them, as I dont think they are included with new carpets. Heck you might even find a carpet that is clean at the wrecker. I once found some near cherry stock 1990 Laredo XJ cloth seats near two years ago at wrecker. Interior was cherry, should have pulled everything, but I wanted those seats, same upholstery as in my jeep, but unlike my 4 door jeep, the wrecker jeep was a 2 door, which means folding front seats! A nice direct swap upgrade. but anyway, if in no rush, take your time and search the wreckers. learn what year models are same for carpet so you know what to search for.

I have got 2 carpet kits through Rock Auto, both being the ACC brand. Cant say anything bad about them. They fit both the XJs perfectly after some trimming (which is required on any carpet kit). Quality is definitely there. I am about to order another carpet set for my 87 and it will be ACC through Rock Auto.
