My '90 4.0 keeps eating crank sensors. They will work for maybe 6months to a week. The last time this was happening the ecu ended up having a short. Anybody heard of this sorta thing being a issue and maybe a fix?

More details? What brand sensors are you buying? How did you determine the ECU had a short?

What brand have you been using? Have you been getting them all at the same place? Have you checked the wiring for any breaks in the insualtion, pinched wiring, or anything else that looks suspect? Any corrosion in the connectors? Have you checked the same for the ECU wiring? What all have you done to diagnose it?

I had been using the Mopar sensors because I know they are supposed to be the better ones. But my local dealer can't get them anymore. So now I've been using the BWD sensors. Haven't looked for cracked wires. And I had a shop diagnose the last ecu. No clue know they figured it out

I'd go through your harnesses (specifically the grounds to start with) before doing anything else.

The aftermarket crank sensors aren't great, but most will work for a while at least. Check out Cruiser54's tips on getting it a little closer to the flywheel, and checking the output (and he has info on improving the grounds too). The OEM crank sensor should still be available though, but who knows...
