Default Replacing the Cat

Was looking under the jeeper getting ready for winter and the exhaust including the cat are looking pretty bad thanks to these ohio winters
might be time to replace them.
what is the difference between high flow, OEM, and universal cat?
Im looking for the quietest exhaust and the best MPG.

The universals dont have a o2 sensor bung. OEMs arent efficient. Go high flow for best mpg. And they are cheaper. Magnaflow at Summit Racing for $114.

anytime you can increase airflow it will help. I would use an aftermarket cat and muffler. The 02 sensor is not an issue on an 87,it only has one prior to the cat.
The other thing is high flow and quiet do not go together,if you want stock quiet you will need to stay oem,but even high flow will not be that much louder.

The 96 has the two o2 sensors, that is the one that attracts rust like my teenage daughter attracts idiots that want to sleep on my couch and needs the exhaust.

I would definitely shop around for your cat and make sure you get one that will work with your OBDII unless you set up a mil eliminator which is highly illegal but makes for better gas mileage. most exhaust shops will really bend you over for a replacement Cat set up.

Summit Racing has direct fit, OEM replacement converters, that would allow you to still be legal and gain a mild performance boost. You would be within the laws guidelines to replace the current unit because it is damaged and not functioning properly.

If you do end up going with a high flow or a test pipe, don't just toss your old one away, sell it for platinum!
