Replacement Fan Blade
Looking for a replacement fan blade for my 2000 so I can convert back to a fan clutch. When I bought the Xj it had a single electric fan conversion, don’t know the cfm or cooling capabilities.
XJ overheats city driving. When I first bought it, the radiator was leaking, had a cracked block, water pump looked it hadn’t been changed in 20 years, no thermostat, clogged heater core, you name it and it was all bad.
so I replaced the engine, radiator, water pump, thermostat, hoses, heater core, basically everything but this electric fan that seems to be very weak for cooling.
Dealer says the fan blade assembly is discontinued, do the fan blade from a Grand Cherokee fit? There’s no XJs in any junkyard that is near me, but like 10 grand Cherokees.
or if anyone knows any aftermarket blades that fit that would be awesome.
Thanks for looking.

I also recommend replacing the fan shroud. It directs airflow and may save your fingers one day.
Just FYI, the 2000 XJ has an auxiliary electric fan next to the mechanical fan that turns on when the coolant temp is above 217°F (?) or the A/C turns on (with sufficient pressure in the A/C system).

Yea the auxiliary fan turns on when hot, not when the ac is on, but it constantly runs hot. I don’t think the fan is efficient enough to be a replacement for the huge CFM stock fan.
I want to to revert back in order to properly diagnose it, and hopefully the switch will help big time. I mean, overheating right after getting off the highway seems suspect enough blame the fan, (considering there’s absolutely no leaks and it’s holding pressure really good).
I was looking at 52002593. I spoke again with the dealer just now and he said any 87-01 Cherokee, wrangler, or grand Cherokee with the 4.0L uses the same fan. I’m going to grab the fan and shroud from the junkyard considering there’s about 10 grand Cherokees, and use a new clutch.
thanks

I don't think the xj uses the same fan as a grand cherokee . I think the xj fan is smaller then the others , the fanshroud for the xj is different , the xj has 2 fans side by side one engine and the other is a electric fan .

I’ll run the risk if the shroud and blade is $10. Worst case I’ll be back saying it doesn’t work/fit.

I think he was right. I looked up some part numbers. DIscount auto shows the same flex-lite part number 415 for a whole bunch of Jeeps engines. Looks like the v8 has a different fan than the 4.0.

Just an update for anyone who was interested. I went and looked at 10 different Grand Cherokees that were at my junk yard and they were either V8s or already had the fans taken from the 4.0L.

Remember if you find one, it's reverse rotation with the serpentine belt. Measure the diameter of your fan shroud and the diameter of the V8 blade. It may fit anyhow, provided it's the correct rotation.

I didn’t grab one since they were V8. I was only looking for the 4.0L, but they took them as soon as they got there.

BTW, my 2000 WJ 4.0 only has an electric fan, but the water pump also has the big threaded boss on it for the fan clutch. I'm told the tow package WJ's have a clutch fan as well as the electric fan in that year.

I ended up getting a fan blade from somebody who was building a Comanche. I also upgraded to the ZJ clutch, thing sounds loud and it runs great at idle, but still runs hot and overheats with the AC on. I am going to start a new thread cause I’m out of ideas.
just in case anybody finds this in the search options, there’s a replacement fan for a 1994 ZJ that may fit the XJ at Napa. The diameter is 16”. I didn’t want to wait a week since I’ve been trying to diagnose an overheating/hot problem with my truck. Original I wanted to revert back to a metal fan since the previous over just stuck an original aux fan in place of the metal fan with a thermo switch. Basically not enough cfm.
thanks for looking.
