Default replaced heater core, now fan doesnt work

I just got done pulling the heater box to replace the hetaer core and evaporator core. Now that I got everything back together, when I turn the heat or AC on, I get no fan and smoke starts coming from the area around the blower motor/resistor.

I pulled the resistor and it smelled burned out, so I replaced it, and same thing happens again.

What could it be?

Fan motor stuck on something or pinched wire...

OK, I just tried it again, this time pulling the resistor out of the box, yet leaving its wiring harness connected. I had the same results and can see that the smoke out of the hole for the resistor.... so guessing a fried blower motor, or like you mentioned, the fan blade possibly stuck.

If I pull the blower motor out and bench test it, what's a good way to do that? Excuse the ignorance, I'm an idiot with electrical.

Is that a joke? I pulled the resistor out to see where the smoke was coming from, if it was coming from the resistor itself or seemed to be coming from the fan.

Sorry, I think we misunderstood each other... I pulled the resistor out of its hole, and the smoke is clearly not coming from the resistor. Its coming out of the heater box, I'm guessingfrom the blower motor.

That sound right?

I was reading in other threads that the fan switch is notorious for having problems, or it also could be the relay... I'm not really wanting to just keep throwing parts at it, so is there a good way to bench test it?

Also, can the blower motor be yanked without removing the ac accumulator or disconnecting the lines?

Well just my luck, I was able to fish my fingers up inside, and the blower fan won't spin. What could it be stuck on? Please tell me I don't have to pull this whole box back out!

Its a 98, 4.0L... It is just the 3 screws, but I'm wondering if the AC accumulator isn't too bad in the way. Haynes manual(ya ya ya I know) says it has to be yanked out

If the o-rings are not old, you may be able to pivot it out of the way and not lose gas.
