I loosened the mounting clamp for the canister, and barely started to pivot it.... but it popped open and dumped all the refrigerent. The shop I took it to said they put new rings on it, I thought they didn't come off without the fuel/ac line tool?! WTF!Originally Posted by Turbo X_J
If the o-rings are not old, you may be able to pivot it out of the way and not lose gas.
Does that sound like an error on the AC shop's part? I barely moved it, almost made me think it could have popped loose hitting a gnarly pot hole or something!
Figured it out. When I put the box back together, there's a round plate that sits right behind the rear edge of the blower motor fan wheel. It has to be sandwiched correctly between the two halves of the heater box... well it wasn't. The top of the disc got shifted to one side against the top half of the heater box when I bolted them together, so it sat forward, putting a little pressure against the fan wheel.

Can you explain in more detail about how you fixed your fan issue. I too just replaced my heater core and can not get the fan to turn on...and I have tried everything. Did you have to pull the box out again?

This was a while ago, but if I remember correctly, I could smell a little bit of an electrical burning smell when I would turn any function of the heater or AC on. From the engine side of the firewall, you should be able to reach your hand in where the blower motor is and see if the fan blade is able to spin freely. Mine wasn't, it was seized up after installing it.Originally Posted by ToddBattle

I had to pull the fan and motor back out (only 3 screws I believe), then I could see where part of the heater box was obstructing the fan blade when the motor was installed. Somehow, when I put the 2 halves of the heater box together, something didn't line up just right, and one part overlapped the other in the wrong direction.
Since I didn't feel like taking everything completely back apart and taking the box back out, I was able to just trim the obstruction a little with a die grinder or a dremel, then vacuum out the shavings. It didn't affect any function or airflow at all. Good luck!
