Hello all,
I looked at the underside of my 89 xj and I have a few rust holes. Like I can touch the carpet from the outside in a few spots. The thing is, the carpet inside is absolutely mint. Is it possible to take out the carpet in one piece, replace the floor, then put the carpet back in?

Yes you can. If you have rust and holes though, the padding is likely to be pretty nasty in that area. In my case, the carpet was starting to turn brown which prompted me to look underneath and see the 6-inch hole. I chucked the carpet and put down the cheap Harbor Freight brand bedliner (aka duplicolor bed liner) - yeah it's definitely noisier. I would suggest running a hose outside of the vehicle, and checking for water leaks before putting the carpet back in. A common cause for rusted out floor pans is an undetected water leak.
