Default Which repair manual?

Hello everyone, first post here.

I'm about to pick up a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country 4x4. I'd like to get a repair/service manual, but I'm unsure which is best.

The Haynes?

Amazon.com: Jeep Cherokee,Wagoneer,Comanche,1984-2001 (Haynes Repair Manual) (0038345015533): Haynes Haynes: Books Amazon.com: Jeep Cherokee,Wagoneer,Comanche,1984-2001 (Haynes Repair Manual) (0038345015533): Haynes Haynes: Books

The Chilton?

Amazon.com: Jeep Wagoneer/Commanche/Cherokee 1984-2001 (Chilton's Total Car Care Repair Manuals) (9781563927102): Chilton: Books Amazon.com: Jeep Wagoneer/Commanche/Cherokee 1984-2001 (Chilton's Total Car Care Repair Manuals) (9781563927102): Chilton: Books

Which is the better manual? Or should I just purchase both? Thanks!

JMHO, check ebay or craigs list for a '96 specific Chrysler/Jeep factory service manual......it covers in detail bumper-2-bumper down to the last nut/bolt/screw.

I used to be a Chilton's person but the last few manuals I've bought have been Haynes. They are both good products (although both cower in fear of the factory service manuals).

Both manuals assume some mechanical knowledge as they can't pack everything in a small affordable package.

I've always used Haynes and never had and complaints. And with all the photos they are very "newbie" friendly.

Haynes and Chilton are now the same company. The older Chiltons were great if you can find one.

NEITHER.

The best manual hands down is the factory service manual. It is way more comprehensive and is not "generic" to many years.

Ebay is a good source. Others below. Good luck!

There is a parts guide along with service manuals for 97+ on the Morris 4x4 center web site

http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowled...ex.htm#service

The great lakes XJ site also has a lot of technical information and documentation.

http://greatlakesxj.com/tech.html

These do require you to take the computer to the garage of print the pages.

I find that computers the automotive fluids to not mix well.

Amazon is a good source for factory manuals too. The prices are all over the place but just keep checking.
