Checked fluid levels yesterday and looked perfect. Took it on a small drive this morning and it was slipping. So I went to Napa and purchased a new tps and adjusted it. Went on another test drive it was still sipping. It goes through the gears, but shifting out of third it just revs then I have to slow down (about 20mph) and it will move on acceleration once again. So I went home and did some reading and realized there may have been a chance the fluid was burnt from driving this long with it low. So I ran outside and smelt my dip stick, comparing it to a fresh jug of fez/merc and the dipstick smelt burnt. So the plan was to drain and refill. Going to be installing the new steering knuckles and calipers today as well.
Is it necessary to flush the trans from the output line coming out of the trans fluid cooler?
I saw a video where a gentlemen recommends running new fluid through it twice.
I’ve read in a few different places about the “poor mans flush”.
drain four quarts out of the trans return line, then add four quarts, and do it all over again. Two or three times is supposed to give you the desired oil color/consistency.
I am going to jump on this today for my trans is still slipping after a drain and fill.
I did the flush and so far great results thank you. I ordered that cavfab steering. I look forward to installing it. Do you have any recommendations for upgraded steering box?
I drove long distance drive (a couple hundred miles) and got home and the trans fluid was at the halfway mark and smelt burnt. This is after the “poor mans flush”.
I’m assuming a failure in my part. No where lever where I am. I try my best. I just disconnected the return line from the transmission and put it in a five gallon bucket and ran 12
quarts through it. (Until it was red) and now I’m about to fill it. And install the cavfab steering after.
So I flushed the transmission and installed the new steering. Went to take off for a test drive and realized I overlooked the backspacing required for this steering. So now I’m dead I’m the water. I order spacers for a temporary fix. Looks lovely me new rims are next. I want to stay at 15” with the appropriate backspacing. Do you have any input? New steering
I am still having trouble with the transmission slipping. Fluid level is at the full line after multiple flushes, new tps is adjusted correctly. What would be next?
