Hi all: Two questions pls: #1 What does "renix" stand for?? #2 Asked this question in tech. section,hope someone in this forum has some answers also. My '00 xj w/137k has twice now in a couple of weeks shown what looks like" nobus" where odometer usually reads milage along w/symbol of engine liting up (I assume check engine lite). If I just touch lightly the brake pedal,lite turns off and odometer shows milage.One and only answer in tech forum was to remove inst. cluster, clean contacts and reinstall. I can't understand why touching the brake pedal slightly and problem goes away why this would be inst. cluster. Any one have any other ideas or is the inst. cluster a common problem ?? jerrops

 

Renix is a fuel injection system that was a result of a joint venture of Renault and Bendix. Hence, the name RENix. Was used from 1986 to 1990.

 

The Renix stores no codes, has no "light" and you need to figure out what's wrong yourself. Renault 'Clio' and the Ford 'Taurus' might have combined and have designed the ********. Every bit as easy to understand as a Renix.

If the NOBUS appears and the engine keeps running, the advice you received was correct. It resolves the vast majority of XJs with this symptom and even if it does not, you have to try this first anyways.

Remove cluster, clean contacts with a thorough spray of electrical contact cleaner, ADD A DAB OF DIELECTRIC GREASE (important) and reconnect.
