So it would be safe to assume that my 90' 2door 4.0 is a Renix as well? so what exactly ARE the differences between a renix and a non-renix?

Yes, 90 is a renix

The renix ecu was made by renault/bendix, both of which are well known in the aeronautics industry

renix is Pre-obd and therefore does not "throw codes"

Renix jeeps have one oxygen sensor and a EGR valve (91+ does not have egr valve, and has at least 2 oxygen sensors)

Any "codes" are stored until the vehicle us shut off UNLESS they are a "hard" code, one that reoccurs and stays for more than 2 seconds.

There are no really available scanners for renix, and even if you found one they would not be very useful. The snap on one is l ike 2500$ last time I checked.

The renix system can be diagnosed with a multimeter and some time

Renix jeeps use a knock sensor, therefore they can advance timing until ping starts, and then slowly retard until it stops. This increases fuel mileage over the HO jeeps.

Long crank times are normal, usually 5-10 seconds. The engine has to reach 300rpm and find TDC at the no1 or no6 cyl before it will send spark and fuel.

Renix uses an adjustable TPS, HO are non adjustable

They also have a 25mph downshift when you are on the brakes, 91+ does not have this.

Hell yeah, I love my Renix XJ!!!!!! Thank you for sayin 5-10 sec crank is normal on start up. I don't know how many times I have to tell people that on this site.
A lot of people with Renix XJ's think something is wrong when actually everything is perfect.

<---To Renix!!

I have never owned a renix. I know they are a good solid motor. What keeps me from them is the rats nest of wires sprawled all over the place. I try my best to waterproof my motors as much as I can and I'm sure it would drive me crazy.

Its only 13 more... Not that big of a difference.
I notice an acceleration difference between my girlfriends 96 and my renix, but mine has been beat to hell and "knocks like a mormon on a door" as one of our old members said.

Im going through an 89 right now and trying to strip out as many extra vacume lines as possible. Its only gonna be a buggy, and only needs to run.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I figured Id basically just copy the vacume system from the HO, basically just the MAP, fuel pressure regulator, oil breather and the brakes if I remember right. No need for cruise, air, or whatnot, its already stripped out and the hulk has no lid.

For now I just need to be able to move it out of the shop if I need to, after I buy some tube it will need to be able to wheel. Any issues Ill run into?
