Default Removing door check pin

Trying to replace the door check pin and bracket. For the life of me I cannot get the old pin out. I'm just trying to hammer it out from the bottom. I've hammered on it so much that the bottom of the pin is a little deformed from me pounding on it, but it's not coming up at all. Anyone have any ideas or advice?

Take vise grips and grab the bottom as tight as you can then hammer on the vice grips

On anything like that you might want to "back up" , the bracket when you smack the pin. (with authority) A "crisp" shot. Heat can really help. Even slowly pouring boiling water on it might get it hot enough to make a difference. Btw, I'm not positive, but I believe that assembly needs to go in, to get it out. Not sure there.

That's weird. I was able to pull mine out by hand b/c the hole had been elongated, which is why I was replacing the door check bracket in the first place.

Thanks for the replies and advice. Upon taking a close look, rather than just pounding away, it appears that the pin has been cracked, broken, or bent. There is an uneven lip on the pin, below the arm, that must be keeping it from coming up through the holes. If I stick a flat head screwdriver in there, I can feel that the pin has an edge and isn't smooth. What now? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I used a Phillips screw driver and set it into the bottom of the pin and hammer the screw driver.

Your alternative is to unbolt the entire assembly and remove. This would require removing the door panel and unbolting the door check and the pin hinge from the frame.

Cut the pin i half with a dremel tool and use a punch between the two halves to spread them apart then drive them out.

X2, Those little cutting wheels for a dremmel are no joke. You can cut allot of steel, or a 3/8 bolt with just one or two. I got 50 on ebay..I forget $10 or 15 bucks. Don't you need to change the whole thing though? I had no luck finding one at my local JY, but I might consider just swapping the whole works...guess you might still need to cut the "bar", though. Again, I'm not sure.
