2000 cherokee sport 4.0

I'm removing the transmission and replacing it because it blew the front pump seal. I've got it almost all the way out. I took all the bolts out that hold it to the engine and I got the inspection cover off. Do I need to get the 4 bolts off that are inside the transmission to break it free of the engine?

The bolts are probably not inside the transmission, are you refering to the torque converter to flex plate bolts? If so, yes a lot easier to remove the torque conveter and transmission as one.

When you take the little cover off next to the engine oil drain plug there are 4 bolts on the wheel in there that turns with the crank. I need to know if those need to come out and what to do from there

Yes pull those 4 bolts. If you have all the bell housing bolts and everything else except those it will come right out with a lil bit of wiggling. Home you're using a tranny jack.

So you're saying once I get those 4 bolts out I'm good to go? Or are you saying that since I got everything else except those 4 I can wiggle it off?

Remove the 4 bolts first and then you remove the tranny and torque converter together.

I'm also assuming you already got out the starter as well?

And for re-install, put the torque converter on the flywheel, the get the tranny onto it, get someone to crank the harmonic balancer while you push the tranny forward to make sure you get the little notch in the torque converter seated on the tranny

after doing it 4 times now I just pull my front clip unplug everything and take the engine and trans out as a whole. and put them back in the same way. alot easier to mate them up on a bench then in the vehicle.
