Default Remote start not working . . .

mine's a 93 XJ sport and I think it's an aftermarket remote start/keyless entry system
the lock/unlock works from the key fob, but the remote start doesn't

there are two switches under the dash near the panel I had to remove to get the hood cable replaced but they don't seem to affect anything

any ideas?

I'll try and get some pics this evening

One of those switches is probably to turn on/off the remote start capabilities...also, if there is a hood pin, make sure hood is closed or remote start will not work if it's grounded.

I tried with the switches in every possible combination, but it didn't seem to affect either the start, or the locks

I think I saw a sticker in the glovebox that had the name of the place that installed it . . . maybe it has some info on there . . .

I fiddled with the switches again and the remote start does work, but I couldn't find a pattern in how the buttons on the fob need to be pressed . . . the lock/unlock button works, but I can't figure out if the other two buttons need to be pressed once each, or just one of them twice and the other does nothing, or just general mashing on the buttons

haha

I'm probably thinking too hard about it . . . scratch that . . . I AM thinking too hard about it

I'm going to open up the fob and see if the button contacts are clean . . . a dirty contact would certainly produce inconsistencies like I'm seeing

[edit] turns out they're a different type of switch than I was thinking . . . oh well
this is the first vehicle I've had with remote start and I've been just fine without it so far

if it's a DEI remote start, you'll need to press the rem start button (usually yellow) two times. Press and hold for one second, let off, press and hold for another second, release. Another two firm presses will disengage the remote start. Pressing the brake with the key not in the on position will disengage the remote start. Like he said above, there's a kill switch, which is probably one that you removed. Not sure about the other switch, was the other a programming button?

turns out I was pressing the wrong button the whole time . . .

the fob has three buttons: one has a little pictogram of an open trunk/and an image of a key another button has the word 'Option' and the third has images of two padlocks one open one closed

the lock/unlock button is obvious, but the other two . . . not so much
I guess that's the result of using a generic keyfob . . . I though the option button was for the starter, but it's the trunk/key button instead

haha

and yes, it starts after two presses a second apart, but I don't know if it can be remotely disengaged . . .

ah I should have specified . . . it's an aftermarket kit that was put in by a previous owner . . . it just took me a while to figure it out since I didn't really pay attention when he demo'd it for me

funny thing happened this morning . . . I went to Dunkin Donuts this morning, and I don't have cupholders, so I balanced my coffee on the console thinking I'd pick it up before I started moving, well I didn't and pulled out of the drive-thru and now I have a nice coffee flavored passenger side carpet
